One of Nottinghamshire’s most prominent businesses is set to champion the achievements of local disabled sportspeople at upcoming sport-focussed awards ceremony.
McCann Group Limited is the leading supplier and installer of street lighting, traffic signs, signals, communication systems and associated civil engineering. And the Beeston-based business is proudly sponsoring one of the 15 categories at this year’s Nottingham Post Sports Awards.
The Disabled Sportsperson of the Year award is open to athletes of all ages and encourages anyone with a demonstrable motivation and determination to succeed to enter for the chance to win an acclaimed trophy.
McCann Group Chairman, John McCann explained more about the reasoning behind their involvement.
“We are always keen to support and promote local talent in all of its forms and the sports awards provided an opportunity for us to demonstrate that commitment and promote excellence,” he said.
“Following the success of previous years’ awards, we identified this as an ideal opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the local community and its outstanding athletes.”
Anyone looking to enter the category has until Friday 23 August when nominations will then close and applications passed over for judging.
While as sponsors the McCann Group won’t play a part in the decision, they will be presenting the award during the special ceremony and with that in mind, Mr McCann pinpointed the values and characteristics he hopes to see as well as the skills he believes equal success.
“We are looking for individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in their chosen sport, whether that be overcoming adversity, dedication or the will to succeed,” he added.
“The skills to succeed in sport are the same as in business or any walk of life, desire, determination, commitment and flexibility of ideas and the strive for excellence.
“These are all values that we seek to promote at McCann’s and use our association with various sports to demonstrate these values to the wider community through our association.”
McCann Group Limited join a number of other generous category sponsors including Butler & Willow, Ikano Bank, Fraser Brown Solicitors, Mazars and the Royal Airforce.
The glamorous awards evening is taking place on a date that will already be in everyone’s diaries as it marks Halloween and the official Brexit deadline of Thursday 31 October.
