Some of history’s greatest sportspeople wouldn’t have made it to the top were it not for the encouragement of managers or coaches guiding them along the way. They’re undoubtedly the unsung heroes that work tirelessly behind the scenes, but many are content just relishing in their prodigy’s successes.

However, the Nottingham Post Sports Awards believes in drawing out all the individuals that make up the local sporting community. And one of its 15 awards on the night will place special recognition on these stand-out managers and coaches.

The Brian Clough OBE award for Manager/Coach of the Year is always hotly contended and during the glittering award ceremony on Thursday 31 October will be presented on the night by the category’s generous sponsors, Mazars.

Mazars, who specialise in audit, accountancy, advisory, tax and legal services are one of Europe’s largest accounting firms and have been long supporters of the Nottingham Post Sports Awards.

Strong believers in the annual event and the impact it has on the local area, their involvement brings great prestige to this year’s event.

“Sport takes skill, determination and a will to win – very similar to business,” said Alistair Wesson, Nottingham Office Managing Partner at Mazars.

“We wanted to get involved in more than just business-based awards and help to celebrate sporting and community success, what better category to sponsor than this one?”

Entries for all categories close on Friday 23 August where all applicants will be placed into the hands of judges and shortlisted to just three.

Mr Wesson had clear characteristics in mind when it comes to the winning manager or coach.

“We are expecting the winner to demonstrate all the key facets of good coaching, including success, durability, team-building and an understanding of what the sport means to the community,” he added.

Mazars join a line-up of other category sponsors which include BMI The Park Hospital, Elonex, Ikano Bank and Southwell Racecourse.
