A category which praises the unsung heroes of sport, the Volunteer of the Year category at the Nottingham Post Sports Awards is one that comes with great prestige.
De Vere are a nationally recognised name with over 20 unique properties across the country and are the UK’s leader in dedicated business spaces. This year, they are the driving force behind recognising the region’s best and brightest sporting volunteers.
Situated in the University of Nottingham’s campus, The De Vere Orchard Hotel features 202 bedrooms, four meeting rooms, a gym, and a bar. In addition, the site’s Bramleys Brasserie was extended in 2017 to incorporate the Brailsford Suite to create the perfect space for meetings, engagements, private dining and wedding receptions.
The hotel complements the needs of travelling businesspeople with it being adjacent to the De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre which is of course, the location for this year’s Nottingham Post Sports Awards.
Tom Waldron-Lynch is the General Manager at Nottingham’s De Vere Orchard Hotel and commented:
“Nottinghamshire has a huge amount of sporting talent, but the people that are often overshadowed in sport are the ones that contribute to the sporting community in other ways. Volunteers who dedicate their spare time to raising money for sporting needs – these are the people that need to be celebrated. We’re so happy to be sponsoring “Volunteer of the Year” and can’t wait to see the nominees!”
Tom enthused about the benefits of the annual event too, and emphasised how De Vere’s sponsorship is a rewarding one: “For the De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre and Orchard Hotel, the key benefits of the Nottingham Post Sports Awards are that it enables us to become closer to the sporting community; support local companies and organisations and see what amazing achievements have been made in the sporting world.”
Certainly no stranger to large-scale sporting events and sponsorships such as the Nottingham Post Sports Awards, De Vere’s association with the local sporting community is ever further reaching, as Tom explained:
“Over the past 30 years we have hosted hundreds of large sporting events at the De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre and Orchard Hotel; which have brought several thousand people to the area. This has also benefited the local community, it’s businesses and the local economy.
“In addition, we work closely as a partner of The Nottingham Panthers as well as the team at the David Ross Sports Centre on the University of Nottingham, to help bring sporting events to the county.”
